Bhagavad Gita: An Epitome of Stories & Lessons for Leading a Best Life
The Bhagavad Gita – In Sanskrit: श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता is a beautiful collection of 18 chapters and 700 verses. It is a part of Hindu scripture and the Mahabharata epic. Considered one of the holy scriptures of Hinduism, it is said that people can find answers to any problem or solution to any conflict in life from the Bhagavad Gita.
The Gita presents a simple narrative of dialogues between the Pandava prince Arjuna and his guide and charioteer Krishna. At the start of the dharma yuddha (or the "righteous war") between the Pandavas and the Kauravas, Arjuna is overwhelmed by a moral and emotional dilemma. He despairs about the violence and death the war will bring upon his own loved ones and family. Wondering if he should back out of the war to avoid causing hurt and pain, he seeks Krishna's guidance. Krishna counsels Arjuna to "fulfill his Kshatriya (warrior) duty to uphold the dharma" through Karma ("action"). The Krishna–Arjuna dialogues cover a broad range of spiritual topics, touching upon ethical dilemmas and philosophical issues that go far beyond the war itself.
The Bhagavad Gita, written by Veda Vyasa around 400 BCE, provides solutions and answers through examples and philosophical concepts, which have been interpreted with widely differing views on the essentials.
Today, I am posting my first blog, as I feel that everyone on this planet goes through dilemmas, struggles, life-changing experiences, hurt, guilt, regret, satisfaction, love, hate, and countless other human emotions. I, too, have experienced emotional ups and downs. Now, I am starting my journey to find answers for myself and become the best version of who I can be.
I would like to thank my grandmother, Late Smt. Vasanti Jivrani, for always maintaining a religious and spiritual environment in our house while I was growing up. She often chanted Gita verses while working in the kitchen or doing household chores. Whenever there were conflicts or problems in our family, she would provide solutions based on her lessons from the Gita. She used to tell our family, "Take help from the Gita, and you will find answers to all your questions." I always wanted to follow her advice, but I never managed to do it—until now.
In 2021, when my grandmother passed away due to COVID, I once again decided to turn to the Gita. However, I struggled, as the book reminded me of her, and I was scared to hold it.
Now, in 2025, I have decided to face my fears. I am determined to make her proud by learning whatever lessons I can from the Gita and leading a better life. Today, along with confronting this fear, I am embarking on a voyage to explore answers to struggles and challenges in my life—whether related to work, passion, hobbies, relationships, love, hate, karma, dharma, or the whirlwind of emotions within me.
“Gita is my friend, philosopher, and guide.” – Someone said it so well. A book or scripture is always an unconditional companion—no complaints, no demands, just help.
Let’s just do it!
Stay tuned for chapter-wise learnings, life-changing hacks, and plenty of philosophy.
